For specialized phlebotomy training in Chicago, check out the College of Office Technology or COT. The one-quarter program is taught by medical doctors who are highly qualified practitioners. It is not designed for beginners but rather for individuals with some experience and exposure in healthcare and wish to gain more technical skills. The course includes CPR and EKG training. Successful completion will qualify graduates to sit for the national certification exam and earn the credential of certified phlebotomy technician. Lab facilities at COT are state-of-the-art and training is focused on quick employment after completion. The Malcolm X City College has a two-semester phlebotomy program that starts in fall. Each semester is devoted to instructional and practical classes. Successful completion of the program means eligibility to sit for the certification exam administered by either the National Phlebotomy Association, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians.
