Phlebotomy training in Massachusetts are mostly one-semester programs At the Bunker Hill Community College in Charleston, Boston, the program includes instructional and laboratory, and practicum, with an equal number of hours for both components. However, there are a few other courses, like health employment issues and clinical practice that is part of the training. Massasoit Community College offers one semester for its phlebotomy certificate program. It consists of theory and laboratory, which is a total of 6 credits, and a four week, 160-hour externship either at a hospital facility or laboratory. Clinicals are five eight-hour days a week for four weeks. At Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, it’s phlebotomy program is also completed in a semester. After formal coursework and laboratory practice, a 120-hour practicum spread in three weeks must be completed by students as prerequisite for graduation and sitting in the certification exam. The advantage at Wachusett is the ability to transfer or apply the 3 credits from phlebotomy training for an associate degree in medical assisting to further your skills.
